2018 Amputee Education Series event on Alternative Pain Management
This is our second event to discuss pain management for the treatment of residual limb pain and phantom pain for amputees. We will have experts in alternative therapies along with products to evaluate. Chloe Grout from VitaMed Research will discuss their FDA approved clinical study which is evaluating electrical nerve block as safe and effective treatment option for patients with post amputation pain. In addition, Nancy Philbrook, an RN with 45 years of experience, will discuss the benefits of CBD (THC Free) for treatment of pain and health promotion for amputees. Nancy is co-owner of Rosie Days Solutions.
The Newest Prosthetic Technologies
Representatives from Freedom Innovations, Otto Bock, and Ossur will be present to talk about the latest technologies available in upper and lower extremity Prosthetics and Orthotics. Demonstrations will be given and there will be ample time to ask questions and see product demonstrations.
Video Gait Analysis
For those who are interested in understanding more about their gait and how to optimize it, Mr. Stan Patterson will be conducting gait analysis and recommendations. If you so desire, we will email you a video along with a written assessment of your gait based upon your level of amputation, activity level, etc. Stan Patterson is the owner of Prosthetic Orthotic Associates of Central Florida and is one of the world’s premier prosthetists and an expert on gait analysis and alignment.
You will have the opportunity to take part in an Amputee Basketball Clinic conducted by Steven Mosqueda from AMP1 Basketball Team. Steven has been playing stand up amputeebasketball for about 6 years now. AMP1 travels the nation and speaks to students about the importance of pursuing their passions with courage in spite of difficulties and obstacles that come your way!! CLICK HERE to see AMP1
Cynthia Longfield will be conducting a participatory pilates workshop for amputees. She has been teaching for over 15 years and is certified in the Gyrotonic Method. She is very familiar with the amputee community as her sister lost her arm in a terrible accident and Cynthia was able to help significantly her. She will be sharing basic structure information about Pilates and Gyrotonics specifically adapted for amputees. In addition, she will be re-educating while addressing conditioning, flexibility, balance and gait.
Ping Pong Tournament and Free Lunch
Finally, there will be a ping pong tournament for those who want to have a little fun and improve their skills! You can also enjoy a game of pool if you so desire. Free lunch is also included!
